Colorful Acrylic Flower Painting by Eda Varricchio

Colorful Acrylic Flower Painting by Eda Varricchio

This is a piece done by Eda Varricchio. She is a landscape painter known for her expressive colors and warm flowers that spread throughout her body of work. She has a wide following in San Francisco and The Bay Area and an even wider appreciation in Japan where she is considered to be “one of the finest garden painters.”

Utilizing the halftones in the painting to choose the matboard and frame allowed me to have both the matboard and frame step back and let the bleed of the colors of the piece step forward, highlighting the arrangement of expressive marks and bright colors. This is a practice I like to call, “Quiet Framing.” I like to let the image step forward while the matboard and framing play a supportive role by stepping back and having the artwork front and center, a practice I use a lot here in my frame shop.

For the frame we chose an Italian Classics Pickled White frame from International Moulding and used a Crescent 8ply, acid-free/lignin free, cotton mat. We also used a Tru Vue Museum grade glass which virtually eliminates reflection and blocks up to 99% of UV rays.
